Video Divina: My Father, My Lord

St. Monica's Parish Hall - 6405 Terrebonne, Montreal, Qc.

Directed by: David Volach
Israel, 2007- Hebrew with English subtitles

Avraham Eidelmann, an old ultra-orthodox rabbi, has a young wife, Esther, and a young son, Menahem. He spends all his time praying and studying the Torah, and has little time to devote to Esther nor to Menahem, who is awakening to life. But today Menahem is happy. His father has accepted to go to the Dead Sea for their holidays. Once on vacation, adherence to the strictures of Torah do not end. Avraham herds the men out of the water for mid-day prayers. Always taking the longest to pray, he does not notice that Menachem, who slipped off earlier to catch more fish in an estuary, ran into the sea despite his not knowing how to swim. By the time he finishes his prayers properly, for Avraham, for Esther and for Menachem, it’s too late.
